Stir crazy in Perpetual Lockdown

Writers block and hanging on by a thread

For the past 2 weeks, I’ve been in perpetual lockdown in South Korea. It’s not just me. Every person affiliated with United States Forces Korea has been living in a state of limbo as the COVID numbers continue to stay high.

I am fully vaxxed and boosted. I have the papers I carry around with me to prove it.

We are not permitted to go to public places like restaurants, shopping venues, attractions … basically anything that you’d do if you left the house to break up the boredom. The monotony is crushing.

We are permitted to go places that are located on the Army post, provided we are masked. That means a few restaurants (mostly fast food), the Post Exchange (imagine a Wal-mart), the Commissary (the grocery store) … the bowling alley (the small movie theater is closed), the gym, the very small library (grab your book and go).

We are permitted to walk or hike (with a mask) but for the past two weeks, the temperatures have been hovering in the 20's.

A few of my friends and I have talked about doing a “game night” but not more than 6 people are permitted to gather at a time off post. We all live off post. The problem is, which couple do you NOT invite to the…
